A cry of pain for the Cutty Sark.

It is tragic that the Cutty Sark has been so badly damaged by fire and it will be all the more sad if it turns out (as suspected) to be arson.

Living and working quite near Greenwich means that the Cutty Sark has been one of those characteristics of London that you get used to seeing over the years and perhaps even take for granted - I had often meant to go onboard, do the tour and see what she was like but I always put it off till the next time. Sadly there may never be a chance to see her in her glory again as the damages may now cost too much (£25m was the pre-fire restoration figure).

I hope that she can be saved but it will only happen if the public show their support - donations can be made at www.cuttysark.org.uk.

And if it does turn out to be arson perhaps, in honour of the Lady's 19th Century heritage we should bring back hanging.

I'll go and fetch some rope. I think it only fair that it be some Cutty Sark rigging.

Too harsh? Maybe I am becoming more like a Daily Mail reader as the years pass.

It is terrible what has happened to what was the flagship of cutters. I did take the tour, a few times, and have to say that she was a beautiful lady. Not Victory, but beautiful all the same, and a glorious site for miles around.

If it was arson, I don't agree that hanging should be brought back, as hanging's far too good for whichever 'disenfranchised' happy-slapping, chav scumbag, fourteen-year-old-dad, burberry wearing, testicle-less son-of-a-dunce responsible for a travesty such as this.

Call yourself an arsonist? I'm not impressed, you picked essentially a flammable wooden box which was well over a hundred years old, you big sissy-girls, why don't you pick on something sporting, something difficult like the cenotaph, now if you can get that to burn, hats off to you as it's made out of stone.

Better yet, why don't you burn down your own house whilst you are inside?

A plague on you and yours you bounders! This is not what England is about.

Fear not me heartees, for she will rise again mark my words.
